10 November 2016—
As I wrote in “Day After Election: Protesting President-elect Donald Trump (Part 1)” The Election Day was over; results were in. And the President-elect was Donald Trump! Some people were happy, but for some it was an unexpected surprise.
Protests started early in the morning across from Trump Tower on 5th Avenue. Later continued, or the big one started in Columbus Circle, in front of another Trump building. And finally ended by joining other protester coming from Union Square on 5th Avenue in front of Trump Tower.
People were chanting and, there were a lot of different messages written on cardboard. I tried to photograph the ones without words.
Like any parades on 5th Avenue, 5th Avenue was closed to traffic. But this wasn’t a parade; this was like “People of River”; thousands of protesters were coming, running, chanting as one body, one voice. Never stopped….,and created “Sea of People”.
While protesters walked on 5th Avenue there was one person, a cigarette in his fingers, watching. Maybe trying to understand, digest what was happening.
And some other people were trying to capture the size of crowd by climbing to the scaffold like acrobats.
Crowd wasn’t only on the Avenue but sidewalks also.
Chanting as one voice “ You are not my president!”
At the protests I always try to take pictures without written signs, so that it will be more international, can reach more people even they don’t speak that language.
Here a rainbow flag was representing the LGBTQ crowd.
Women were chanting “My body, my choice!”, and men following “Her body, her choice!”
“Pro Rape” words under Donald Trump’s picture, and “Love Trump’s Hate” signs were another ones to see everywhere.
And a big torn American flag……
She was so expressive, her face was talking loud enough, and she didn’t need a sign with words…
Police officers and barricades were everywhere, but it didn’t stop protesters. Energy was enormous.
One was asking “Tell me what democracy looks like,” and the others were replying “This is what democracy looks like!”
Even after 12:00 am. protest was still going on…
