22 December 2016—
On Thursday, December 22, just before the holidays, Mayor de Blasio and the Department of Veterans helped 16 formerly homeless veterans move into their home in the city-subsidized new affordable housing at 655 Morris Avenue in the Bronx. Some members of the community holding welcome signs were there to greet the veterans.
The Mayor, the Department of Veterans’ Services Commissioner Loree Sutton (right) and the members of the Administration helped the veterans settle into their new homes by carrying boxes full of home goods including blankets, kitchenware and their belongings. The veteran Samuel Rosado, 68, was happily walking in the front.

“ Today, 16 formerly homeless veterans who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation received a home just in times for the holidays” said Mayor de Blasio and introduced one of the veterans, Samuel Rosado, 68, who served 30 years in the army and was homeless for almost five mounts.
“ Our veterans who have made the ultimate sacrifice in life should not be living on the streets or in shelters.
“And I want all New Yorkers as part of their holiday reflection and part of their New Year’s resolutions to think about what we can do for the veterans in our lives,” the Mayor said.
The affordable housing building at 655 Morris Avenue has total 176 units, and 16 apartments set aside for veterans.
