The Association of International Photography Art Dealers (AIPAD) presented the 38th photography show, which was held on 5-8 April 2018 at Pier 94. And the show, this year again, attracted collectors, photographers, photography lovers etc.
More than 100 of the world’s leading fine art photography galleries were at the show.
One of the most impressive photographers was at Etherton Gallery’s booth. Etherton Gallery had W. Eugene Smith’s last photo essay “Minamata”, which documented the effects of mercury poisoning on the residents of a small fishing village called Minamata in Japan in the early 1970s, which was selected and edited by his Japanese assistant Takeshi Ishikawa.
And gallery also presented Smith’s assistant in Japan Takeshi Ishikawa’s pictures of W. Eugene Smith and his wife Aileen Spragua Smith.
For visitors it was a priceless gift from Etherton Gallery.
And one gallery was there with the same pictures, almost the same pictures, they brought last year. Last year they got a lot of attentions, but this year I saw nearly no one at their booth. It shows that show-goers do pay attention.
In the back, at the “book dealers, publishers” section photographers were signing their books.
A full member of Magnum Photos Alex Webb and his wife and creative partner Rebecca Morris Webb were at the show to sign their book or maybe books.
When a photographer and a cinematographer run into each other at a photography show what do they do besides talking about images?
Famous “street and Punk” photographer David Godlis who is best known by his last name GODLIS (left), and award winner, Academy Award nominee famous cinematographer Ed Lachman were comparing each other’s cameras.
It was getting late and tiring for some visitors to stay awake.
A young visitor decided to take a nap.
To be continued…
