After singing the national anthem and saluting the flag, guests gave speeches, some longer than the others.

Mayor Eric Adams: “This is a Pearl Harbor moment. As our national anthem states “bomb bursting in air, gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.” He talked about 9/11 event.

“It is the only country on the globe with dream is attached to our name, American dream. This is where dreams are made and built and we have to always protect that dream. We protect that dream with the men and women who defend this soil.”  And Mayor Adams thanked the men and women of the military.

Governor Kathy Hochul: “…Some people noticed, they hadn’t seen a Governor and the Mayor on the same stage for this event (before) so we are here to make history thorough collaboration.

When you join the military, you put your ego, political persuasion, geographic influences aside, you become one powerful unit where the number one objective is to protect your beloved homeland, I believe that all of us as Americans, and certainly those in public office, have that same capacity in our hearts, to learn from example through our military. It goes way back to the early days of our founding fathers,” said Hochul.

The Governor also talked about Ukraine, Vietnam war etc… It was a long speech!

After several speeches, Adams and Hochul joined military leaders in laying several memorial wreaths into the water.

The order of the schedule is always the same. After tossing  the wreaths, event continued with stretching 100 feet flag.

After the flag unfurled, a detail from joint force Empire Shield fired three volleys, a traditional military salute to culminate the event.
